The Back 2 School Children’s Fair starts at 10 am Aug. 15 at 201 Stetson Drive
On Saturday, August 15th, Camino Community Center will host its 16th annual “Back to School” Children’s Fair. Due to the persistence of COVID-19, this year’s event will feature a convenient drive-through.
Keeping with tradition, Camino Community Center will offer low-income and uninsured children the opportunity to receive free backpacks and school supplies this year.
Last year, the event gave away over 1,000 backpacks benefiting children in need throughout our community. This year’s goal is to provide the same services in a safe way that is realistic of the ongoing pandemic. (more…)
Bears Behind the Badge will help read stories on May 13
Give your kids the gift of lively storytelling each Wednesday at 7 pm in May, streamed live from the Shoppes at University Place by University City Partners and groups that help bring you the amazing Charlotte Kids Fest each fall.
Pinwheel Polly, the mascot of Charlotte Kids Fest, has invited several friends to share their love of reading each Wednesday via the Kids Fest Facebook page.
Reedy Creek Nature Preserve
Imagine sending off the kids to a week-long outdoor adventure – yet having them home each day in time for supper or even lunch.
Reedy Creek Nature Center will host 10 such programs this summer in the sprawling Reedy Creek Nature Preserve, including morning camps for 4- to 6-year-olds.
Reedy Creek Nature Preserve protects 927 acres of natural, forested habitat within Reedy Creek Park. The Nature Center is about a mile inside of the park entrance at 2900 Rocky River Road. (more…)
Volunteers plant a tree last fall at Endhaven Elementary School
TreesCharlotte and our students at the Dorothy J. Vaughan Academy of Technology need your help planting trees on Feb. 8.
The TreeDay event is a great way for families and people of all ages to learn about the importance of trees while helping build Charlotte’s urban-forest future.
TreesCharlotte is a public/private collaboration dedicated to planting trees, primarily through volunteer efforts with a focus on underserved communities.
Thanks to a partnership with LendingTree, Charlotte 2020 Host Committee and 2020 Convention Planners, TreesCharlotte and dozens of volunteers will plant about 120 trees on the campus of the Vaughan Academy, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools magnet school. (more…)

Reedy Creek Nature Preserve has 10 miles of trails
Reedy Creek Nature Center and Mallard Creek Recreation Center will offer several entertaining and educational activities throughout December for our children and families.
Among the programs are ornament making, winter crafts and hikes at Reedy Creek; How to Catch and Elf (and maybe meet Santa!) at Mallard Creek; and daylong programs for children 6-11 while school is out at Mallard Creek.
Many events are free; some require you to register. Some require parents to accompany children. Read on for details and registration links.
