The Governors’ Village STEM Academy in University Research Park will soon have an extensive outdoor learning lab thanks to Duke Energy and the nonprofit group Out Teach.
On May 10, scores of Duke Energy volunteers will come to the school campus to erect the lab, including a shade structure with seating, decorative and raised-bed vegetable gardens and other learning centers. Duke Energy also will provide funds for the new center.
In 2018, Duke Energy and its volunteers helped create a similar Out Teach learning lab at at Walter G. Byers Elementary School.
Out Teach is a national teacher-development nonprofit working to ensure that all students, no matter their resources, have access to an engaging, hands-on education that transforms their lives. Besides helping schools develop outdoor learning centers, Out Teach also provides training to make use of these facilities.
