Reedy Creek Nature Preserve

Imagine sending off the kids to a week-long outdoor adventure – yet having them home each day in time for supper or even lunch.

Reedy Creek Nature Center will host 10 such programs this summer in the sprawling Reedy Creek Nature Preserve, including morning camps for 4- to 6-year-olds.

Reedy Creek Nature Preserve protects 927 acres of natural, forested habitat within Reedy Creek Park. The Nature Center is about a mile inside of the park entrance at 2900 Rocky River Road.

The center’s exhibits, classroom and staff provide home base for each of the summer programs.

Mini-Naturalist: Our Friend, Mother Nature

  • Ages: At least 4 but less than 7
  • Hours and dates: 9 am-noon June 8-12
  • Cost: $85

  • Description: Discover how you have a special bond with mother nature. Learn how bees help flowers and gives us honey! Yum!! Explore how the different scents of plants can be put into soaps and candles for us to use. Nature is full of wonderful things and our mission is to seek them out on our adventures!

Mini-Naturalist: Where the Wild Things Roam

  • Ages: At least 4 but less than 7
  • Hours and dates: 9 am-noon June 22-26

  • Description: The forest is steeped in mystery! What is that noise? What is that marking? Who ate this plant? Journey to explore the unknown and uncover the secrets of the forest. You might even see/hear a snipe!

Mini-Naturalist: The Best of the Best

  • Ages: At least 4 but less than 7
  • Hours and dates: 9 am-noon July 13-17

  • Description: We have taken the best activities from years of past summers camps and packed them into this week. Be prepared to get wet searching in the creek, looking under logs for critters, meeting our reptile and amphibians, explore every inch of the preserve and just getting back to the good ol’ days of being a kid!

Reedy Creek Time Travelers

  • Ages: At least 7 but less than 10

  • Description: Campers will travel through time at Reedy Creek. We will transport ourselves all the way back to prehistoric times, then make our way to the present and into the future! Join us to track down dinosaurs, live like early humans, build a “Robinson Rockhouse” and much more.

Wildlife Investigators

  • Ages: At least 7 but less than 10
  • Hours and dates: 9 am-4 pm July 20-24

  • Description: Under rocks and leaves, in the sky, or between the trees, there are animals everywhere! Where do they hide? What are their lives like? Grab your detective gear so you can help us uncover the mysteries of Reedy Creek’s wild animals.

Eco-Explorers

  • Description: We are searching for explorers at heart. If you enjoy nature, the outdoors, and finding nature’s way of providing with water, food, and shelter for all, this is the camp for you. This is a week full of adventures, exploring the outdoors, and fueling your curiosity for the natural world.

Lights, Camera, Action!

  • Ages: At least 10 but less than 13
  • Hours and dates: 9 am-4 pm July 6-10

  • Description: Put the “you” back in “YouTube” this summer by learning to craft your very own digital nature documentary. From start to finish, campers will learn techniques for organizing ideas, collecting footage, and editing content that will tell the story of their chosen nature-based topic. We’ll learn about safe sharing practices online, as well as platform options for campers to share their completed projects. On the last day of Lights, Camera, Nature Camp, parents are invited to an exclusive screening of the week’s documentaries.

Reedy Creek Outdoor Survival School (ROSS): X-Treme Summer

  • Ages: At least 10 but less than 13
  • Hours and dates: 9 am-4 pm Aug. 10-14

  • Description: Summer is here which means ROSS is in session again! Develop survival skills Monday and Tuesday at Reedy Creek; then put them to the test later in the week. Our “X-Treme” adventure will depart Wednesday for a two-night camping trip in the mountains where we will hike, practice our survival skills and embark on a unique extreme adventure that will make lasting memories. In the past we’ve explored the waterways and tree tops, but this year we go BIGGER, BADDER and MORE EXTREME! We will enjoy lunch at the base of a 50ft waterfall, wade in the large swimming hole and then on Thursday go spelunking (caving) and explore Worley’s Cave. Come adventure with us!

Naturally Artful Summer Camp

  • Ages: At least 12 but less than 15
  • Hours and dates: 9 am-4 pm Aug. 24-28

  • Description: Draw, paint and sculpt while exploring nature! This laidback camp is for the creative at heart. We will learn a variety of art techniques and create some wonderful nature art together. Be prepared to be knee-deep in mud and elbow deep in paint! The week wraps up with a small art show for family and friends!
