UNC Charlotte 49er Gold Rush 5K

As the second race in the Healthy UCity Race Series, the UNC Charlotte 49er Gold Rush 5K Run/Walk, Virtual Race and Fun Run, hosted by University Recreation, is open to everyone. Current UNC Charlotte Students with a valid student ID who register by the early bird deadline will receive a student discount. Faculty/Staff, Alumni, and Community are encouraged to participate.

Net Proceeds from the 17th Annual 49er Gold Rush 5K Run/Walk will benefit the University Recreation Student Professional Development Fund. Additional donations will be collected for this year’s race beneficiary – the Para Guide Foundation.

Civic By Design Forum

1. An overview of Charlotte’s University City as a testing ground for the potential role(s) of a students-centered local economy in sustainable urban development;
2. Presentations of proposals focused on envisioning student/community retail centers that would be the “student place” to hang out, socialize, etc.;
3. A discussion on why these centers would have to be welcoming to and supportive of the general community for it to be viable; and
4. Explore urban design strategies that could transform the area into a true college town.
